What's something your pet insurance covered that you totally didnt expect?

ok so my cat swallowed a hair tie last week (yes i know i should have put them away lol). Took her to the vet expecting to pay for xrays and whatever else out of pocket because i figured swallowing random stuff was like a stupidity tax not a medical claim. But i submitted it anyway and they actually covered the whole thing minus my deductible. $1,100 bill and i only paid $250. i had no idea foreign body ingestion was a covered thing?? What else have yall gotten covered that surprised you?

lol my cat ate a ribbon off a birthday present and same thing. fully covered. also found out my plan covers prescription food! my cat has kidney issues and the special food is like $80/bag. insurance reimburses most of it. i was just buying it on my own for months before i realized i could submit claims for it

My golden had a limp that wouldnt go away so we did physical therapy and hydrotherapy. I figured no way insurance covers basically a doggy spa day right? Nope. They covered the rehab sessions because the vet prescribed them. 12 sessions of underwater treadmill at $85 each. Insurance paid 80%. I about fell over when i saw the reimbursement come through.

Acupuncture. Im not even kidding. My 12 year old dog has arthritis and our vet recommended acupuncture as part of pain management. I submitted the claim as kind of a joke honestly and they approved it. Apparently alternative therapies are covered on some plans if theyre performed by a licensed vet. Weve been doing monthly sessions for 6 months now and hes moving so much better

this is real! our plan covers acupuncture and chiropractic too. a lot of people dont realize that these are becoming more mainstream in vet medicine. always worth checking your plan details because its usually buried in the fine print somewhere

Not exactly unexpected but i didnt think theyd actually pay. my dog ate an entire sock and needed endoscopy to remove it. $2,300 bill. i figured theyd say it was preventable or something. nope covered in full after deductible. also learned that if they need surgery to remove something its covered too. basically anything your pet swallows counts as an accident on most plans. dogs are expensive idiots and thank god for insurance lol
